From the Chair...
Welcome to the Huntington Town
Democratic Committee web site. We are very
happy that you have chosen to visit us. We
are very proud of our commitment to “good
government” and to our record of supporting
candidates who live up to this promise.
Historically, we have been the party which
has brought diversity and positive change to
Town government, and, just six years ago, we
nominated the first African-American to be
elected to serve on the Town Board.
While we are very proud of these
achievements, we also recognize the need to push
for continued progress on the issues that make
Huntington a great town in which to live.
Some of our infrastructure is badly in need or
repair (Route 25-A and Route 110), our workforce
needs affordable housing so that they can live
where they work, and our young people and our
seniors need smaller housing units so that they,
too, can remain in Huntington and contribute to
the rich culture of our Town.
Our elected officials need our
support not only on the local level, but on the
state and national level as well. We are
facing an important election this year.
President Obama, the entire House of
Representatives, and one-third of the Senate
will be up for election. It is going to
take money, good candidates, and HARD WORK to
guarantee that the positive gains of the past
four years will be retained and continued into
the future. Our children deserve our full
devotion to their future. We must continue
to support the humanitarian, egalitarian, and
good governmental actions of our
candidates. The future is in our hands and
we must work continuously to ensure that our
goals are achieved and kept in place to be built
upon for the benefit of our children and
grandchildren. They deserve nothing less
than our BEST effort. Please join us in
our effort to continue to make Huntington, New
York State, and the whole United States a
better, kinder, more egalitarian place to live,
work, and raise a family.
Mary Collins,
Chair

Recently,
the Eleanor
Roosevelt Legacy held their
annual Spring Breakfast at the
prestigious Yale Club in New York. The
speaker for the event was Congresswoman
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Rep.
Wasserman-Schultz, a native
of Melville, attended Half
Hollow Middle School and Half Hollow
Hills High School East.
She is a tireless fighter for women's
rights and human rights and is also
the Chair of the Democratic
National Committee. The
group enjoyed meeting her very
much and were proud to be there when Eleanor's
Legacy presented her with the
Trailblazer of Democracy Award.
Showing
their support, the Huntington
Democratic Women's Initiative
attended the April 20th, 2012 event.
Seen here with the Congresswoman
are Louise
Van Brink, Barbara Murphy, Rep.
Wasserman-Schultz, Sherry Pavone, Mary
Collins, Jane Devine, Judy White and Pat
Naples.
Eleanor's
Legacy is building a new
generation of pro-choice Democratic
women candidates, informed voters, and
political activists throughout New York
State.
The
mission of Eleanor's Legacy is
inspired by the dynamic legacy of Eleanor
Roosevelt, one of the most
influential figures of the 20th century.
Eleanor
Roosevelt dedicated her life to
expanding the role of women in politics
and government. As she famously said, "Democracy
is not about words, but action."
Eleanor's
Legacy takes action to
increase women's participation in New
York Democratic politics. They raise
funds to elect women to state and local
offices, provide political training and
leadership development, and have
established a growing statewide network
of women community leaders, elected
officials, and grassroots activists.
Since
2001, the Eleanor's Legacy board of
directors and its members have worked
together to build a new generation of
politically active Democratic women
leaders. Join them today and help pass
on Eleanor's legacy!
